Description of Benefits
Health Insurance
The Company provides a comprehensive health insurance program to all full-time, regular employees.
The Company pays 75% of the premium cost for covered employees and any covered dependents. Employees
who wish to participate in the Company plan contribute 25% toward the premium costs. The plan includes
provisions for major medical preventative care, prescription drugs and vision. A full description of
the plan is available in your insurance package.
Dental
The Company provides basic dental insurance coverage for employees. Family coverage is available and
paid by the employee. For an additional charge, major services, such as orthodontics, caps and crowns
can be added to the basic dental coverage. A complete description of the dental plan is included in
your insurance package.
Flexible Benefits Plan (Section 125 Plans)
The Company offers to its employees a Flexible Benefits Plan which allows employees to save, through
payroll deduction, for health care expenses and dependent care expenses on a pre-tax basis, and to
pay dependent health insurance premiums on a pre-tax basis.
Premium Conversion
Health insurance premiums for dependents are automatically set up on a pre-tax basis.
Life Insurance
Various group life insurance options are available to employees including term, accidental death and
dismemberment (salaried employees only), and universal life. Rates are very competitive, due to group
purchasing, and employees should consider these policies upon their individual needs. All premiums
are payroll deducted.
Long Term Disability
Long-Term Disability (LTD) insurance is available to all employees in order to provide long-term
income protection in the event of illness or injury. Long-term disability benefits go into effect
after an employee has sustained a disability that lasts longer than 90 days. The disability can be
a result of an injury or illness sustained on or off the job. Employees and the Company share the
premium for this insurance.
Short Term Disability (STD)
Regular, full-time employees are eligible for STD benefits which pay for loss of time from work due
to a non-occupational accident or illness, following treatment by a doctor. STD is a self-funded
insurance benefit offered by the Company at no expense to employees.
Holidays
It is the policy of the Company to observe the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, 1/2 day Christmas Eve, and
all Christmas Day. Eligible employees will be given the time off with pay for each holiday observed.
A holiday schedule is published in December of each year.
Vacation
Employees accrue paid vacation based on their continuous length of service with the Company.
After 6 months of service with the Company, employees are eligible for 5 days of paid vacation.
Vacation days are granted in January of each year and should be taken in the year it is given.
Vacation days are approved and scheduled through an employee's supervisor.
After completing 5 years of service, employees are eligible for 15 vacation days. After 10 years,
an additional day of vacation up to 20 years of service and 25 days of vacation.
Sick Days
Regular, full-time employees will be eligible for five sick days after six months of service with
the Company. Of these five days, two may be used as personal days, meaning they may be used for
absences for any reason. In the next calendar year, and in each calendar year thereafter, employees
will receive five days per year. These days may accumulate up to a maximum of ten days. With this
"bank" of sick days, there can only be two personal days in any calendar year.
401(K)
A 401(K) Plan is offered to employees as a means of long-term savings for retirement. The 401(K)
Plan allows employees to save through payroll deductions on a pre-tax basis, with a portion of
the contributions being matched by the Company.
Tuition Assistance Program
Because of the Company's interest in developing a better educated and more highly skilled workforce,
N. B. Handy will be providing financial assistance to eligible employees who pursue formal education
programs that meet the Company's current and future talent requirements through its Tuition Assistance
Program. Such programs should be one element of an overall development plan formulated by the employee
and his or her manager. Providing educational assistance can alleviate personal financial hardship,
making it possible for employees to pursue both career and outside interests, as well as develop
their potential.
